Liverpool Prepare to Break the £100m Barrier Again as Barcola Becomes the Reds’ Latest Luxury Target

Liverpool appear ready to return to the transfer market with the financial confidence of a club that has apparently decided nine figures is now just another item on the shopping list. Their latest target is Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, with reports indicating that Liverpool are preparing an opening offer for the France international. PSG are understood to value the 23-year-old at around £145 million, meaning the Reds could be contemplating a third major £100m-plus attacking investment after Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak.

Liverpool’s £100m Habit Is Becoming Expensive

Liverpool have already demonstrated that they are willing to operate at the very top end of the transfer market. Wirtz arrived from Bayer Leverkusen for an initial £100m, with potential add-ons taking the deal to £116m, before Isak followed from Newcastle in a British-record £125m agreement.

Now Barcola has entered the conversation, and Liverpool’s spending department may soon require its own fitness programme. PSG’s reported £145m valuation would make the winger potentially more expensive than either Wirtz or Isak. For a club rebuilding under new head coach Andoni Iraola, however, Liverpool apparently see the investment as something that could transform an attack requiring more pace, unpredictability and one-versus-one quality.

From Wirtz to Isak to Barcola: Is Liverpool Buying a Squad or a Shopping Mall?

Barcola’s attraction is understandable. He is quick, versatile and already an established France international, while his profile has risen further after helping PSG win consecutive Champions League titles. Yet despite his achievements, his position in Luis Enrique’s star-studded PSG squad has not always been secure, and reports suggest he could be open to a move to the Premier League.

Liverpool’s interest has also developed from a wider search for a winger. Their earlier pursuit of RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande has complicated matters, with PSG becoming involved in that race before turning their attention elsewhere. Liverpool subsequently elevated Barcola among their preferred alternatives, and current reports suggest the Reds are preparing an opening approach. Whether that approach satisfies PSG is another matter entirely.

For Iraola, the investment would not simply be about adding another expensive name. The Red are trying to rebuild an attack capable of supporting Wirtz and Isak, while also dealing with defensive concerns and a squad still being reshaped after a turbulent campaign. Recent pre-season evidence has offered encouragement: Wirtz and Isak combined effectively in the first half of Liverpool’s 4-2 defeat by Leeds in Chicago, showing flashes of the attacking chemistry the club hoped their huge investment would produce.

The satirical question, therefore, is no longer whether the Red can afford another £100m player, but whether their transfer budget has quietly developed an addiction to nine-figure numbers. Barcola could become Liverpool’s statement signing of the summer, but a reported £145m valuation means negotiations may be less about buying a winger and more about determining just how expensive ambition is allowed to become. With the Premier League season approaching and Iraola still demanding more reinforcements, supporters should watch closely: the Barcola story could soon reveal whether the Red’s investment strategy has entered an entirely new financial league.
