Apparently, rejecting a contract is one thing; convincing Bournemouth to sell is another sport entirely.
Alex Scott Remains Central to Bournemouth’s Plans
The latest Alex Scott situation reflects Bournemouth’s broader strategy of protecting their most valuable young players. Sky Sports reported in July that the club had already rejected approaches from Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United and expected Scott to remain at Bournemouth regardless of whether he accepted their improved contract proposal.
That decision makes sporting sense from Bournemouth’s perspective. Scott enjoyed an excellent 2025/26 season and became one of Andoni Iraola’s most trusted players, appearing in almost every game. He also demonstrated his versatility by operating as a No. 6, No. 8 and No. 10, while his defensive work and ability to carry the ball have made him attractive to elite clubs.
Bournemouth are also entering their first European campaign, which gives the club another reason to resist selling key players. Keeping Scott means retaining a midfielder who already understands the demands of Premier League football and has experience playing in several tactical roles.
The club’s position is therefore not simply about refusing to sell because they can.
