Liverpool have spoken with Mbaye’s agent Jorge Mendes, while the player is understood to be attracted to the Liverpool project. The complication is PSG’s valuation, which is currently considered too high by the English club, leaving the potential transfer at an early but intriguing stage.
The interest is not based purely on potential. Mbaye, who is 18, has already made significant progress at PSG and became the club’s youngest player to start a Ligue 1 match when he made his senior breakthrough in August 2024. PSG’s official profile describes him as a quick, powerful and versatile attacker, while his contract runs until 2027 according to the club’s own profile. Recent reporting has also put his current contract through 2028, so the exact contractual details reported publicly are inconsistent; what is clear is that PSG retain considerable leverage over any sale.
Ibrahim Mbaye Emerges as Liverpool’s Alternative PSG Target
The Ibrahim Mbaye situation has become particularly interesting because Liverpool’s interest has developed alongside their pursuit of other PSG attackers. Reports earlier this month confirmed that Liverpool had made contact with Mendes regarding the teenager, while Mbaye had emerged as a concrete target for the club.
Mbaye’s profile explains the attraction. He primarily operates from the right side but possesses the pace and technical ability to play across the attack. During the 2025/26 season, he made 24 Ligue 1 appearances and contributed three goals and two assists, according to recent reporting. He also featured for Senegal at the 2026 World Cup, adding senior international experience to an already impressive development curve.
For Liverpool, the appeal is obvious: they would be investing in a teenager who has already experienced elite club football and international competition rather than signing an untested academy prospect. At the same time, competition for attacking places in Paris is fierce, with players such as Ousmane Dembélé, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Désiré Doué and Bradley Barcola competing for minutes.
Recent developments have increased the possibility of Mbaye leaving. He was reportedly left out of PSG’s squad for the Trophée des Champions against Lens, following an unused-substitute appearance in the UEFA Super Cup, circumstances that have fuelled speculation about his immediate future. However, absence from a squad does not by itself prove that a transfer is imminent, so Liverpool will need to establish PSG’s actual willingness to sell before committing to a major proposal.
